On the Bit Error Rate of Optical Transmission Systems Corrupted by Bivariate Additive White Gaussian Noise

We derive in integral form the exact Bit Error Probability for QPSK constellations corrupted by elliptic AWGN. We show that for an in-phase/quadrature noise the performance only depends on the overall Signal to Noise Ratio and not on noise ellipticity.
