On the merits of SVC-based HTTP Adaptive Streaming for Over-The-Top Video Services

In this article, we characterize the performance of AVC- and SVC-based HTTP Adaptive Streaming in terms of perceived video quality, network load, etc with the goal of deriving deployment and configuration guidelines for both options. We investigate different scenarios in which either the network or the client device significantly impacts the video streaming scenario and identify the impact on both approaches.
