On The Road To Universal Information Services (UIS): Wideband Packet Technology (NOT KNOWN IF PUBLISHED BECAUSE AUTHOR HAS LEFT AT&T)
The overview talk will introduce the packet concept and Wideband Packet Networks, including the general functionality of the network components, the Integrated Access Terminal (IAT) and Integrated Access Controller (IAC). This talk will discuss (generally) how packets are transmitted and cross connected between IATs and how the IATs are centrally controlled by the IAC, Hybrid networks, in which Wideband Packets and channelized traffic share common facilities, will also be mentioned. Included in this talk will be a brief history of packet switching, showing the similarities and differences between Wideband Packet and traditional data packet switching. In addition the applications of Wideband Packet Technology will be discussed.
