The fashion for collaboration and mobile working is transforming telephony, but is it also transforming what a small and medium- sized business (SME) expects from its telephony supplier? Alcatel-Lucent certainly thinks so. Its offering for small and medium-sized businesses is based on two main platforms: the OmniPCX Office phone system for business telephony; and the extended communication server (ECS) server, which offers unified communications and mobility solutions to companies employing up to 230 users, though in practice installations rarely go above 80 users.
