Optical dispersion compensator suitable for use with non-wavelength- locked transmitters

We demonstrate a compact and simple silica-waveguide 10-Gb/s tunable optical dispersion compensator (ODC) that works with uncontrolled wavelength transmitters by tracking the signal wavelength. 10.7-Gb/s transmissions over 5100 ps/nm of dispersion with duobinary (with a single-pass ODC) and 3825 ps/nm of dispersion with unchirped non-return-to-zero (with a double-pass ODC) are shown.
