Optical Properties of the Insulating Parent Compounds of High T sub c Superconductors: M sub 2 CuO sub 4 and M sub 2-x Sr sub x O sub 4 (M=Nd, Sm, and Gd)

Room temperature optical reflectance spectra will be presented for the insulating parent compounds of high T sub c superconductors, M sub 2 CuO sub 4 and M sub 2-x Sr sub x O sub 4 for M = Nd, Sm, and Gd (ceramics and crystals). The frequency dependent conductivity has been calculated by Kramers-Kronic analysis. Assignments of the vibrational features, as well as comparison of the relative strengths of the electronic bands that are common to all of these materials will by presented
