OSNR Monitoring for Fault Management in High Speed Networks

OSNR degradation at an optical performance monitoring site within a network is correlated with end terminal performance for fault localization. Sensitivity to 25 dB OSNR is shown to be sufficient for identifying faults that impact the end terminal.
