Out-Of-Band Communication In STREAMS

The STREAMS mechanism in UNIX(TM) System V provides a flexible framework for the development of networking software. However, the existing mechanism makes little provision for the out-of-band communication facilities found in many contemporary protocols. This paper describes enhancements to STREAMS that provide the underlying support for out-of-band communication.
