There is an ever increasing demand for quality overseas telecommunications services, and optical communications and digital transmission are providing the industry with a potent tool for meeting that demand well into the next century. Calls from the United States to Europe and Japan can be carried over satellites or through undersea systems, but users prefer calls completed through undersea systems, because of the shorter transmission delays.
