Overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Expert Systems for Information Professionals

In the September, 1987 issue of Online, I introduced the basic concepts and defined some of the commonly used terms in the fields of AI and expert systems. This article continues that discussion by describing some applications of AI and expert systems for information retrieval, especially online searching. I will also review some of the major developments in the field and will describe some systems currently in use.
