Overview: Parses, Proofs and Optimal Paths

Note: This tutorial lecture is due to last one hour, with a half hour for questions. The audience is of mixed disciplinary background, including linguists, computer scientists, and some electrical engineers. They are more likely to be familiar with the concepts and jargon to be found in JACL, CACM or LI than those typical of IEEE ASSP. The body of the workshop includes talks that cover in detail many of the issues that I will touch on briefly. All of the material in the lecture is to be found in the open literature.
