Packet-based JTAG for remote and virtual applications

This paper presents a proposal to express JTAG as an asynchronous packet based protocol while maintaining full backward compatibility. The interest is twofold: on the one hand it allows JTAG to exploit high-bandwidth connections, and on the other hand it allows it to enter the software domain, with particular interest for virtual or cloud resources.
