Packet Switched Data Network Performance Measures and Analysis

The following document describes the Packet Data Network Performance Measures and Analysis Project (PSDN-PMA). PSDN is the predominant vehicle for both terminal-to-host and host-to-host networking in the Bell Lab environment. PSDN is a Datakit(R) technology network that connects tens of thousands of users and thousands of host machines. The resource commitment in terms of hardware, software and personnel is significant and growing. PSDN is the backbone of the Computation Center host environment. The success of the distributed computing environment will depend, to a large degree, on how effectively the data communications and computing environments are managed.
