Panel Discussion - Reliability and the Customer

In this discussion the authors establish that the number of circuit pack failures seen by the customer over a given operating interval is relatively insensitive to the instantaneous failure rate at shipment. They conclude that rather than shipping circuit packs at a specified reliability, it makes sense to examine the tradeoffs between the cost of achieving a negotiated reliability and the resultant impact on customers.
