Pentaconta system remote line units
01 January 1966
The remote line units which are described in general terms are large capacity concentrators intended for use in low telephone density areas; they provide the same facilities as the large automatic exchanges while producing substantial savings in the cost of subscriber lines. For a traffic of 0.066 erlang and 1040 subscribers, 50 pairs are required for the traffic in each direction, to and from the parent exchange, and 13 pairs for all signalling purposes. The concentrator itself has subscriber Junctors, incoming and outgoing junctors, markers and decoders; the rest of the equipment is located in the main exchange; these are the so-called "pseudo-elements" which provide connections to the normal equipment of this exchange. A block diagram of the equipment and a circuit illustrating the function of the pseudo-elements are provided.
