Performance analysis of nonlinear and gardner timing error detectors with frequency selective pulse shaping

Comparing recent nonlinear timing error detectors to Gardner reference method for root-raised-cosine pulses, we show that Gardner outperforms them for roll-off factors down to 0.05 in presence of transmission impairments such as optical noise and residual chromatic dispersion.
