Performance Analysis of the GUH PACS: Modeling and Validation

Network performance is an important aspect of PACS implementation. The network topology, data transfer protocols and communication media must be jointly considered in order to optimize network efficiency. However, these issues are predetermined by the developers and designers of PACS. PACS users can control other aspects of the network which will impact its operational efficiency. At Georgetown University Hospital, we have a PACS network based on AT&T's CommView(R) system that has been operational for one year. To determine the effect of operational changes to our system, we are developing a computer model of our network, from a user's perspective.
