Performance and Protocol Improvements for Very High Speed Optical Local Area Networks Using a Passive Star Topology.
01 January 1989
In 11345-861215-01TM, a number of random-access protocols were introduced and analyzed for a very high speed optical data network based on a passive star topology. In this memorandum we provide a number of more efficient protocols for the same hardware architecture and characterize their improved performance. In particular, we concentrate on the most simple algorithms which are based on Aloha protocol and do not require any kind of carrier sensing. The protocols presented here perform better than the corresponding protocols of 11345-861215- 01TM for all values of system parameters.
