Performance measures independent of adjustment: An alternative to Taguchi's signal to noise ratio.

Performance measures are derived that greatly simplify the problem of designing products which are insensitive to manufacturing and environmental variability. The process of finding design parameter setting to make such "robust" product designs is called parameter design. Professor Genichi Taguchi has pioneered the use of statistically planned experiments in parameter design.
