Performance signature for dual-polarized transmission of M- QAM signals over dispersive multipath digital radio channels is theoretically derived in this study. We report on two major findings. Firstly, we show that a cross-polarized interferer exhibits noiselike behavior because the interfering signal, in spite of generating noncoherent intersymbol interference, impacts on digital radio outage time in direct relation to its power level. Secondly, our theoretical finding is based on a new application of performance signature curves for two independent, but coupled, multipath channels.
