Phase-Modulated DSM-PWM Hybrids with Pulse Length Restriction suited for Switch-Mode PAs

This paper describes a novel concept to encode amplitude and phase information in binary waveforms for switch-mode PAs. A combination of a phase-modulated DSM and PWM makes it possible to adapt the signal generation to the PA limits. The proposed system has significant benefits compared to known solutions with fixed clock frequencies. The performance is evaluated for mobile communication signals with high PAPR. A proof of concept is implemented in lab with a conventional FPGA.
