Photon counting optical time domain reflectometer using a planar InGaAsP avalanche detector.

We demonstrate the first room temperature photon counting optical time domain reflectometer, which uses a planar lnGaAsP avalanche photodiode. Using a 1.3micron semiconductor laser source we achieve a one way loss sensitivity of 20dB.
