Physical Design and Assembly of a Militarized Hybrid Optical Data Link

A 200 Mb/s optical data link designed and developed for military applications will be described. The link operates at an optical wavelength of 1.3microns and is compatible with 100K ECL logic. Both the transmitter and receiver are in pigtailed (62.5/125microns fiber) hermetic packages less than 0.24 inch high and operate from -55C to 125C. Performance results over the full range of environmental conditions and reliability and quality assurance testing based on MIL-STD 883 (class B of Method 5008) will be reported. Results of EMI, ESD and Radiation Hardness and assurance tests will be included.
