Physical properties of crystals and their symmetry

The possible existence of piezoelectricity, piezomagnetism and pyroelectricity and of elasticities and dielectric susceptances in directions other than that of the applied force or field can be predicted from the degree of symmetry of a crystal. The numbers of coefficients not equal to zero are deduced for each of the 32 crystal classes.
