Electron transfer is recognized as an important means for initiating many biological and chemical reactions. The chemical ramifications of weakly associated ground-state complexes formed between an electron-accepting molecule and an electron-donating molecule in solution only recently have begun to be explored in a systematic manner. In this memorandum, we report the results of picosecond spectroscopic studies on electron donor-acceptor, EDA complexes formed between a tetranitromethane acceptor molecule and a 9-substituted anthracene donor molecule, such as 9-nitro-, 9-formyl-, 9-brono-, 9-phenyl-anthracene or anthracene itself, in dichloromethane solution.
