We have studied the gamma-ray line emission from individual Type I and II supernovae using numerical simulations and photon propagation codes to produce flux levels and line shapes. A record of historical supernovae was compiled to determine the occurrence rate of extragalactic events close enough for line detections with current and planned gamma-ray spectrometers. For both Type I and II supernovae, the gamma-ray line with the highest flux from an individual event is the 0.847 MeV line from the sup (56) Ni -> sup (56) Co -> sup (56) Fe decay chain.
