Optical interband absorption experiments are performed on GaAs doping superlattices, which have a sawtooth-shaped conduction and valence-band potential. Absorption spectra measured at T=6K reveal for the first time the clear signature of quantum- confined transitions and exhibit excitonic enhancement of the absorption for the lowest transition. The maxima in the experimental absorption spectra are assigned to theoretical energies of quantum-confined transitions with perfect agreement.
