Radiated Immunity Field Uniformity Enhancement Techniques for milli-meter Wave Frequencies
14 May 2018
Milli-meter wave frequencies will be used extensively in 5G wireless communication and IOT network devices. These devices could be exposed to high electromagnetic fields and must be hardened to operate and coexist in their intended electromagnetic environments, and be protected from interference and sabotage. Most of these devices would be designed with integrated antennas. Therefore, most testing must be performed Over-the-Air (OTA) and radiated immunity testing is unavoidable. However, generating and testing uniform fields over the test coverage area is complex. This document describes a theory on how the far-field test distance could be reduced and a more uniform field level can be generated over the test coverage area for any frequency range of interest. The theory is validated for mmW frequencies using measured test data.
