Radio communication using earth-satellite repeaters
01 January 1960
Artificial satellites provide means whereby the higher frequencies which are not yet utilized, can be used for communication over long distances. The radio parameters of operating frequency, modulation and type of satellite response are studied. A satellite in a 24 hour circular orbit with a 2 W transponder could relay 96 voice channels using pulse code modulation of a 2 Gc/s carrier. The ground station would use a 1 kW transmitter and 60 ft parabolic aerial.
