Reactions of Bare Silicon Cluster Ions: Prototypical Deposition and Etching vs. Cluster Size

Studies of the reaction mechanisms of small clusters provide one possible means of understanding the chemical reactivity of surfaces at the microscopic level. Prototypical silicon deposition and etching reactions have been observed in gas phase reactions of size selected naked silicon cluster ions with various neutral reagents at room temperature.
