The term "electronic materials" has been taken to mean all of those materials used in the fabrication of electronic, magnetic and photonic devices for the communications and information industry. Thus they include metals, ceramics, glasses and polymers, in addition to the ubiquituos semiconductor. This talk will discuss recent materials research directed towards these applications. In addition to discussing new materials, new processing techniques such as Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE), Rapid Thermal Processing (RTP) and Chemical vapor Deposition (CVD) will be discussed to show how exceptional properties are conferred on these materials by these techniques.
