Optical interconnect is expected to realize a scalable intra- and inter-chip communication infrastructure, while meeting the large bandwidth capacities and stringent latency requirements in a power-efficient fashion. Silicon photonics is perceived to play a crucial role in this application. Here, we report an intra-chip 10×10 Gb/s wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) optical link based on a large-scale silicon photonic integrated circuit with 72 functional elements. Furthermore, the optical circuit is reconfigurable as a 10×10 switch and a broadcasting network. This demonstration verifies the feasibility to implement a compact high capacity WDM interconnect on a chip, which also enable many new advanced optic network functionalities in chip scale.
