Reconfigurable Silicon Photonic Networks-on-Chip

Silicon photonics is expected to be a compact integration platform to implement chip-scale optical interconnects to solve the metal interconnecting challenges in future computer systems. Moreover, advanced photonic network functionalities can be implemented to facilitate new computer architects. Here we discuss an on-chip multiple-channel electrical-optic-electrical links which are implemented on a single chip based on a large-scale silicon photonic integrated circuit technology. The optical circuits can also be configurable as an NxN non-blocking switch as well as a broadcasting network.
