Reconfiguration techniques to enhance efficiency cognitive networks
01 January 2006
The next generation of communication technologies invokes concepts, such as 'cognition', which aim at supporting ubiquitous wireless connectivity in a cost efficient manner. Cognition renders the continuous adaptation to the environment claims compulsory, a necessity which can be facilitated through reconfiguring their networks infrastructure and/or operational parameters. In this respect, network elements (reconfigurable transceivers) could properly adapt to traffic variations and thus enhance cognitive networksiquest efficiency. This paper focuses on such issues, by considering the possibility of evaluating the capacity and coverage capabilities of versatile transceiver reconfigurations, in order to intelligently manage a network. The respective problem is analyzed and solved by means of an efficient algorithm. First results are indicated for validation reasons and potential future directions are outlined.
