In the past decade, information processing and telecommunications technologies have revolutionized how we learn and how we work. These new technologies have created flexible education and work environments that can more easily accommodate persons with disabilities. However, the ever-increasing pace of technological innovation represents both opportunity and risk to persons with disabilities. If the needs of disabled persons are not considered in the design of future products and services, then new technology may introduce unexpected environmental barriers. Today, rehabilitation professionals must guide the evolution of technology to ensure that accessibility concerns are adequately addressed.
