Reliability testing, sometimes called life testing, is usually done to accomplish one of several objectives: a) to verify that a product meets or exceed its reliability objective, often expressed as a mean time between failures; b) to verify the accuracy of reliability prediction procedures (such as MIL-STD-217D) used early in the design process; or, c) to assure that the product is not overdesigned.
