Representations of Preferences

This article surveys representations of preferences. Representation theories are classified according to the structure of the set on which preferences are defined. These include topological spaces, multiattribute product sets, sets of probability distributions, and sets of acts for decisions under uncertainty. The degree of transitivity of the preference relation provides a subsidiary factor for classification.
