RescueWaves - Converting standard cell phones into lifesavers
24 October 2013
Fast and precise localization of victims of accidents, disasters or criminality as well as deranged or lost persons can be life-saving. Despite the meanwhile widespread availability of GPS and cell-based navigation, partially dramatical cases occur in which distressed persons can not be located by their mobile phone or with insufficient accuracy. The "RescueWaves" project provides an innovative, mobile device for search operations, which enables the utilization of signals from off-the-shelf cell phones for fast and precise localization independently from GPS or other navigation systems, for the purpose of rescue of people in a broad variety of application fields.
