Resiliency Mechanisms and network Design for Highly Survivable Optical Transport Networks
01 January 2005
National security, emergency response and network-centric warfare considerations require that the optical transport infrastructure of communication networks be highly available with yearly downtime of only a few minutes per year and feature guaranteed, fast recovery from network failures in the tens of milliseconds. In this paper, we propose new resiliency mechanisms for optical transport networks that achieve the above objectives. We detail the network design and availability computations for the new proposed resiliency mechanisms.
