Robotics Research at AT&T Bell Laboratories

A review of a continuing program of robotics research leading to novel electronics manufacturing applications will be given. The goal of this research is to increse the ability of robots to work in poorly structured environments, to operate at higher speeds, to increase dexterity and to invent improved methods for robot programming. These flexible robot systems will require significantly advanced sensory abilities and computational capabilities. Experminets performed integrating computer vision, tactile sensors, proximity detectors and robot arms using a multiple microprocessor computing system will be described.
