SAMOA-Net project: Multicore fiber based PON architectures

As part of the SAMOA-Net (Spatial Multiplexing in Optical Access Networks) project funded by the federal government, we are working on new SDM-PON concepts and architectures for optical access systems. In this paper, we introduce the SDM-PON concept and compare it to traditional approaches, and we will present and discuss two promising architectures.
