Satellite and Ground-Based Studies of Possible Ionosphere Signatures of Flux Transfer Events

Possible ionosphere signatures of flux transfer events (FTEs) have been identified in data from ground-based magnetometer stations in conjugate areas at geomagnetic latitudes near the magnetospheric cusps sup 1. These signatures suggest that the magnetospheric field-aligned currnts accompanying these events are directed either into, or out of, the ionospheres in each hemisphere.
