Search for gamma-ray line emission from SS433.
01 January 1985
Our balloon-borne germanium gamma-ray telescope was flown over Palestine, Texas to search for Doppler shifted nuclear lines recently reported from SS433 by the HEAO 3 workers. A malfunction in the anticoincidence circuitry produced a larger that anticipated rate of noise counts, but the peculiar temporal distribution of these counts has permitted successful software cleaning after the face. No line activity was detected. If present at the reported time-average intensities, the reported lines would have been detected at the three to-four-sigma level.
