Semielectronic reed crosspoint telephone switching system 10-CX
14 November 1967
The system described is applicable to public telephone exchanges of any size, including terminal, transit, toll, and mixed exchanges. The features of centralised electronic control enable it to effect economies for initial capacities as small as 1000 subscribers lines. An essential part of the system is a multistage link switching network consisting of miniature dry-reed cross-point assemblies. Detailed descriptions of the four main parts comprising the system are given. It is of interest to note that there are no moving parts to the system which operates unseen and in an almost inaudible manner. Maintenance, in the customary sense, as applied to more conventional switching centres, does not exist. Automatic maintenance and supervisory control is provided throughout as an integral part of the system. This particular system is the first stored-programme-controlled reed crosspoint switching system, fully developed and available for application to existing telephone networks, to be offered in Europe.
