Service intelligence through agile information controls

Softswitch technology is an important element in the telecommunications industry trend towards a converged network for voice and data services. Such a network, which is expected to use the Internet protocol (IP), will be more openly accessible than a traditional voice network, so providing security for it will be more challenging. At present, network security in a converged network is not well understood. In this paper, we present a high-level architecture for security auditing in a softswitch-based converged network. This architecture uses a policy-based approach to make security auditing decisions and employs a context-based service priority (CBSP) concept to prioritize the detection and response mechanisms in an intrusion management methodology.
