Determining the manner in which a new feature or service should interact with existing features is a significant task, considering the large number of features in current switched. If the new service is well understood, then feature interactions can be systematically determined by considering how the service should logically interact with existing features, on a feature by feature basis. As as example, the Automatic Callback feature cannot be invoked if the busy terminating party has Call Waiting, unless there is already a party being "call waiting". IN is not a feature or service in itself, but a set of capabilities that provide a means to build services.
