Spin-polarized neutron scattering study of spin-Peierls system MEM(TCNQ)(2).

We have studied the spin-Peierls distorted phase of MEM(TCNQ) (2) using polarized neutron scattering. The ordered moment was found to be zero within the experimental uncertainty of roughly one-third of a Bohr magneton. We estimate that a 30 fold improvement in sample size and polarized neutron scattering efficiency is needed to make the spin fluctuations driving the spin-Peierls transition observable.
