Describes a motor-driven auger provided with manually controlled feed. The auger is mounted on a universal coupling, and is adjustable in any direction to 45deg. The machine will dig a hole 6 to 7 ft. deep, and on the average will bore holes and place poles at the rate of 75 or more per eight-hour day, while 100 is a figure to be expected. The saving in cost per hole compared with manual methods amounts to between three and four dollars, taking all charges into account. The paper is accompanied by photographs of the machine.
