SPQAM_vs_QPSK_8QAM_ecoc2012

We numerically compare the performance of set partitioned (SP) dual polarization 16QAM formats with that of PDM-QPSK and PDM-8QAM with channel coding. We demonstrate that 64-SPQAM and 128-SP-QAM appear as competitive solutions with respect to PDM-8QAM for optical transmission systems 6 bit/s/Hz operating at low optical signal to noise ratio.
