Standard telecommunication laboratories

Survey of the organization of the British research laboratories, with a staff of about 600, which serve the European network of companies belonging to the International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation. About 40%, of the total effort is absorbed by the Exploratory research division; its work is followed by the Advanced Development divisions which prove that the ideas are feasible and hand them over to the manufacturing companies for final design and production. Work of some laboratory groups is briefly described and illustrated by photographs.
